Environmental Management Systems

REDUCE YOUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT

We assist our clients in developing and implementing ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (EMS) to the Standards of ISO 14001, Responsible CareĀ® or the MassDEP the EMS Guidance under the Toxics Use Reduction Program.

We assist with consultation on setting up the framework of company policies, operating procedures, regulatory compliance requirements, monitoring and corrective action programs, personnel organization and training, and management participation and commitment. We also help with internal audits or gap analysis of the EMS elements to identify the degree of execution achieved in the organization toward full implementation of the plan - do - check cycle.

IRWIN can assist you in updating or implementing portions of your EMS program to increase efficiency and lower compliance costs. We also have the capability to assist clients participating in EPA's Performance Track program which rewards and expands the use of compliance audits and EMS.

The objective of many EMS programs is to achieve pollution prevention for source reduction beyond compliance requirements. Our engineering staff can work with you in promoting, designing and implementing the management of change for source reduction opportunities.

Multimedia Compliance Review

We follow the ASTM E2107-06 Standard Practice for Environmental Regulatory Compliance Audits which Mr. Irwin helped develop. Our chemical engineering expertise provides clients with auditors who understand manufacturing processes as well as environmental regulatory requirements. We have conducted hundreds of detailed environmental compliance audits.

Depending upon our Client's needs, an audit may range from a one-day tour of a facility with limited records review to a team audit involving detailed review of plant operating procedures, testing and monitoring data, record keeping and management systems, and detailed inspections. We are prepared to conduct audits that address regulations involving a complete range of environmental programs as well as certain safety programs related to storage and handling of hazardous materials. The specific set of regulations to be covered is agreed to during scoping of the audit and establishing the audit protocol.

A compliance audit may generate findings that will require corrective actions by the company being audited. We strongly encourage that management be involved and committed to corrective action before an audit is undertaken.
